ADI-R + ADOS CAMHS Assessor

Contract  |  CAMHS Professionals  |  Nationwide  |

Your diagnostic skills are specialist. Your next contract should be too.

CAMHS Professionals are specialist mental health recruiters, and we’re always looking for qualified ADI-R and ADOS-2 assessors to join our nationwide network of CAMHS specialists on a contract basis. If you’re trained and experienced in gold-standard autism diagnostic assessment for children and young people, we want to hear from you.

What the role actually looks like

  • CAMHS neurodevelopmental assessment services
  • Specialist autism diagnostic clinics
  • Tier 3 community CAMHS teams with ASD pathways
  • Independent and NHS diagnostic services
  • Multi-agency neurodevelopmental hubs

Day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting ADI-R (Autism Diagnostic Interview — Revised) with parents and carers of children referred for autism assessment
  • Administering and scoring the ADOS-2 (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule) with children and young people across modules
  • Integrating ADI-R and ADOS-2 findings with wider clinical information to contribute to diagnostic formulations
  • Participating in diagnostic consensus meetings with MDT colleagues including psychiatrists, psychologists, and speech and language therapists
  • Producing detailed, high-quality written diagnostic reports to agreed standards and timescales
  • Communicating diagnostic outcomes sensitively and clearly to young people, families, and carers
  • Supporting post-diagnostic pathways including signposting to appropriate services and resources
  • Maintaining accurate clinical records and documentation in line with professional standards
  • Contributing to peer supervision, quality assurance, and service development

What we need from you —

Essential:

  • Relevant professional registration (NMC, HCPC, or BPS) — we welcome applications from nurses, psychologists, SLTs, and other qualified clinicians
  • Formal training in ADI-R administration and scoring (training certificate required)
  • Formal training in ADOS-2 administration and scoring across relevant modules (training certificate required)
  • Demonstrable experience conducting autism assessments in a CAMHS or neurodevelopmental setting
  • Strong report writing skills — ability to produce clear, detailed diagnostic reports
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain)
  • Up-to-date mandatory training including safeguarding children Level 2+

Desirable (but not always required):

  • Experience with co-occurring presentations such as ADHD, anxiety, or learning disability
  • Competency in additional neurodevelopmental assessment tools (e.g. ABAS, VABS, cognitive assessments)
  • Experience presenting at diagnostic feedback meetings and supporting families post-diagnosis
  • Supervisory experience in autism assessment or neurodevelopmental pathways
  • Knowledge of local and national autism diagnostic frameworks and waiting list pressures

What you’ll get from us:

  • Specialist contract rates that reflect your diagnostic training and expertise
  • Flexible contract lengths to suit your schedule
  • A dedicated recruiter who understands neurodevelopmental assessment — not just mental health generally
  • Fast onboarding and compliance support
  • Access to ADI-R/ADOS assessment contracts not widely advertised
  • Ongoing support throughout your placement
