About the Role
As a CAMHS Practitioner working through CAMHS Professionals, you’ll be placed within child and adolescent mental health services across the UK, working with young people aged 5–18 presenting with a wide range of complex mental health needs. Settings may include:
- CAMHS inpatient units
- Tier 3 & Tier 4 CAMHS services
- Crisis assessment and home treatment teams
- Early intervention and eating disorder services
- Neurodevelopmental and forensic CAMHS
Key Responsibilities
- Undertaking comprehensive mental health assessments of children and young people, identifying needs and risks in a timely and thorough manner
- Developing, implementing, and reviewing person-centred care plans in collaboration with young people, their families, and the wider MDT
- Delivering evidence-based therapeutic interventions appropriate to the needs of children and young people
- Providing psychoeducation and support to families and carers
- Conducting and contributing to risk assessments, safety planning, and crisis management
- Supporting and leading on safeguarding processes in line with local and national frameworks
- Working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams including psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and OTs
- Maintaining accurate, contemporaneous clinical records and documentation in line with professional and organisational standards
- Contributing to ward rounds, MDT meetings, care reviews, and clinical supervision
- Acting as a key worker or named practitioner for a caseload of young people where required
- Supporting the development of junior staff and students where appropriate
Requirements
Essential:
- Relevant professional registration
- Demonstrable experience working within CAMHS or a closely related mental health setting
- Sound working knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, and Children Act
- Strong assessment, risk management, and clinical decision-making skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with young people and families
Desirable:
- Experience across multiple CAMHS tiers or specialist services (e.g.eating disorders, neurodevelopmental, forensic)
- PMVA or advanced de-escalation training
- Experience delivering or supporting therapeutic interventions such as CBT, DBT, or systemic approaches
