About the Role

As a CAMHS Practitioner working through CAMHS Professionals, you’ll be placed within child and adolescent mental health services across the UK, working with young people aged 5–18 presenting with a wide range of complex mental health needs. Settings may include:

CAMHS inpatient units
Tier 3 & Tier 4 CAMHS services
Crisis assessment and home treatment teams
Early intervention and eating disorder services
Neurodevelopmental and forensic CAMHS

Key Responsibilities

Undertaking comprehensive mental health assessments of children and young people, identifying needs and risks in a timely and thorough manner
Developing, implementing, and reviewing person-centred care plans in collaboration with young people, their families, and the wider MDT
Delivering evidence-based therapeutic interventions appropriate to the needs of children and young people
Providing psychoeducation and support to families and carers
Conducting and contributing to risk assessments, safety planning, and crisis management
Supporting and leading on safeguarding processes in line with local and national frameworks
Working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams including psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and OTs
Maintaining accurate, contemporaneous clinical records and documentation in line with professional and organisational standards
Contributing to ward rounds, MDT meetings, care reviews, and clinical supervision
Acting as a key worker or named practitioner for a caseload of young people where required
Supporting the development of junior staff and students where appropriate

Requirements

Essential:

Relevant professional registration
Demonstrable experience working within CAMHS or a closely related mental health setting
Sound working knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, and Children Act
Strong assessment, risk management, and clinical decision-making skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with young people and families

Desirable:

Experience across multiple CAMHS tiers or specialist services (e.g.eating disorders, neurodevelopmental, forensic)
PMVA or advanced de-escalation training
Experience delivering or supporting therapeutic interventions such as CBT, DBT, or systemic approaches
