About the Role
As a CAMHS Staff Nurse working through CAMHS Professionals, you’ll be placed within child and adolescent mental health services across the UK, supporting young people aged 5–18 with a wide range of complex mental health presentations. Settings may include:
- CAMHS inpatient units
- Tier 3 & Tier 4 CAMHS services
- Crisis assessment and home treatment teams
- Early intervention and eating disorder services
- Neurodevelopmental and forensic CAMHS
Key Responsibilities
- Delivering safe, compassionate, person-centrednursing care to children and young people under the supervision and direction of senior nursing staff
- Supporting the assessment and monitoring of patients’ mental and physical health needs
- Contributing to the development and review of care plans in line with CPA guidelines
- Assistingwith the safe administration and monitoring of medications in accordance with NMC standards
- Providing emotional support and therapeutic engagement to young people and their families
- Participatingin risk assessments and escalating concerns appropriately to senior clinicians
- Supporting safeguarding processes in line with local and national frameworks
- Maintainingaccurate and timely clinical records and documentation
- Working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams including psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and OTs
- Contributing to ward rounds, handovers, and MDT meetings
- Supporting the implementation of positivebehavioursupport and de-escalation strategies
Requirements
Essential:
- Active NMC registration (Mental Health or Children’s nursing field)
- Experience in a mental health or healthcare setting (post-registration)
- Working knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, and Children Act
- A genuine commitment to the care and wellbeing of children and young people
- Strong communication, teamwork, and observational skills
Desirable:
- PreviousCAMHS or inpatient mental health experience
- PMVA or de-escalation training
- Familiarity with NICE guidelines relating to child and adolescent mental health
- Experience supporting young people with eating disorders, neurodevelopmental conditions, or in crisis settings
