What the role actually looks like 

• CAMHS inpatient and community services 

• Adult mental health inpatient and community teams 

• Forensic and specialist psychiatric services 

• Crisis and liaison psychiatry services 

• Independent and NHS settings nationwide 

Day-to-day responsibilities will include: 

• Providing senior clinical leadership and overall medical responsibility for a defined caseload of patients 

• Conducting and overseeing comprehensive psychiatric assessments including risk assessment and formulation 

• Leading and contributing to MDT meetings, ward rounds, and care programme approach (CPA) reviews 

• Making and communicating diagnostic decisions and developing treatment plans in collaboration with patients and families 

• Prescribing and reviewing medication in line with NICE guidelines and evidence-based practice 

• Providing clinical supervision and leadership to junior medical staff, trainees, and the wider MDT 

• Ensuring compliance with the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, and other relevant legislation 

• Maintaining accurate, timely clinical documentation to GMC and Trust standards 

• Contributing to service development, audit, and quality improvement initiatives 

• Liaising with commissioners, legal teams, and external agencies as required 

What we need from you —

Essential: 

• Full GMC registration with a licence to practise — no conditions or restrictions 

• Approved Clinician (AC) status and Section 12(2) approval (or willingness to obtain) 

• Demonstrable experience as a Consultant Psychiatrist or in a senior psychiatric role 

• Strong clinical leadership and MDT working skills 

Desirable (but not always required): 

• Additional sub-specialty experience (e.g. CAMHS, forensic, liaison, ADHD, eating disorders) 

• Experience in NHS and independent sector settings 

• Leadership or management experience at service or departmental level 

• Training approval or experience in supervising medical trainees
