CAMHS Professionals is urgently seeking two experienced Band 6 Community Psychiatric Nurses for our client. These contract positions offer flexible working arrangements with the potential for extension beyond the initial 3-month term.
The Role
Join a dynamic team providing essential mental health services to the local community. You’ll be responsible for conducting comprehensive assessments, managing complex caseloads, and delivering high-quality, recovery-focused care to individuals with diverse mental health needs.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Assessment & Care:
- Conduct thorough initial mental health assessments for service users
- Formulate comprehensive mental health and social care needs assessments
- Develop evidence-based care plans in collaboration with service users
- Manage and support allocation of team waiting lists effectively
Risk Management & Safety:
- Perform detailed risk assessments and implement appropriate management strategies
- Monitor and review risk factors regularly with robust documentation
- Ensure safeguarding procedures are followed and escalate concerns appropriately
Multidisciplinary Collaboration:
- Participate actively in MDT meetings and case discussions
- Provide clear, concise feedback on assessment findings and care recommendations
- Liaise effectively with external agencies and services for onward referrals
- Maintain strong communication with carers and support networks
Therapeutic Interventions:
- Deliver brief interventions including emotional coping skills training
- Provide trauma stabilization techniques and psychoeducation
- Support service users in developing self-management strategies
- Adapt interventions to meet individual needs and preferences
Essential Requirements
Professional Qualifications:
- Current NMC registration as a Registered Mental Health Nurse
- Relevant post-registration experience in NHS community mental health settings
- Demonstrated competency in mental health assessment and care planning
- Strong understanding of mental health legislation and frameworks
Clinical Experience:
- Proven experience conducting comprehensive mental health assessments
- Expertise in risk assessment and management within community settings
- Experience working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
- Knowledge of care pathways and external service provision
Core Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
- Proficient in clinical documentation and record keeping
- Strong analytical skills for formulating complex presentations
- Ability to work autonomously while maintaining team connectivity
Technical Requirements:
- SystmOne experience highly desirable
- Proficiency with NHS IT systems and electronic patient records
- Competent in Microsoft Office applications
Desirable Experience
- Training or experience in brief psychological interventions
- Background in trauma-informed care approaches
- Experience with specific patient populations (e.g., personality disorders, psychosis)
- Previous contract or agency work within NHS mental health services
- Knowledge of local Surrey mental health services and pathways
Contract Details
Duration: 3 months initially with strong possibility of extension
Start Date: ASAP – immediate start available
Salary: Competitive NHS Band 6 equivalent rates
Working Pattern: Flexible options available:
- 3 days per week (part-time): 09:00-17:00
- 5 days per week (full-time): 09:00-17:00
